An Interview with Facebook's Jami Hoffman

For almost a decade Jami has been hiring top-notch designers for companies like Razorfish, Warner Bros, Yahoo!, & Microsoft. With a creative background, Jami's a natural match-maker having placed designers of nearly every level & specialty. Currently recruiting creatives for Facebook in California, she's the sweetest powerhouse you'll ever meet. We were fortunate enough recently to catch up with Jami and get her thoughts on finding a job during some very bizarre times.

Video embedding now available for all Pro accounts

After quite a bit of consideration and reviewing just about every web video hosting service out there we have decided to support Vimeo.com video embedding on PRO accounts. This feature is now live!

How to embed a video: If you have a PRO account, you'll notice an "embed a vimeo" text link next to the form to upload images. Just click that, and paste in the URL to your Vimeo hosted video and click "embed". You also have the option of selecting a custom thumbnail to represent the video in your set, otherwise your account will use the same thumbnail you are using at Vimeo.

UPDATE: Motion Designer Mikey Pendola offers up an excellent example of Vimeo embedding in action,

New Style available for PRO accounts: Minimal

Some folks prefer the simple life.

All pro users will now notice the new minimal style as an option in their account. Designed as a simple alternative to our 4 classic variations, Minimal is the first in a series of custom style options we will be releasing this spring / summer. Check out minimal in action: Chuck & Jeff

To apply the new Minimal style to your pro account: under the portfolio tab, Minimal will appear as a radio button option under "Style Options". Tip: You can choose to have the sets display thumbnails or just open to the fist image on the 'modify set' page.

Alternate styles are available for all Creative Pro account holders - Create your account now.

Coming soon for PRO accounts: Video embedding, blog / RSS importing, more additions to the style gallery, presentation mode for meetings, and of course a few super top-secret features. Still on a Basic? might be time to upgrade! :)

2 new tools to make your job hunt more efficient

You may have noticed that early this morning a couple new features quietly appeared on Krop. Two simple little tools that probably need no introduction - Featured Jobs, and Private Notes. We hope they help you sort things.

At the earliest stages of talking to a potential employer, much of the discussion is out of your hands. But even when the ball is in their court, you can always benefit from a short note or two. Being able to recall a couple names and dates is a subtle way to let people know that you're organized.

Quick updates & Staff Picks

The pool of talent in the Creative Database got a lot deeper this week with thousands of new artist profiles. Tomorrow we're rolling out a few new features on the job board, and early next week we are going to announce some new upgrades that are in the works for Creative Database Pro account holders.

Today we're spotlighting a couple special artists that have graced the Database with their work this week:

Ales Lins, Design Director - New York City : Understated luxury is one of the holy grails of contemporary graphic design. Alex nails it, and executes his work with beautiful consistency.

Gabe Rubin, Creative Director, Los Angeles : Gabe's work has sold more movie tickets than fandango. Get you popcorn out, his interactive work for big budget motion pictures and video games always has a story to tell.

Introducing Krop 2!

Earlier this week we quietly launched Krop 2. It's been a long time in the making, and we hope you like it! It's a major milestone for us in terms of getting everything under one roof on our new development platform. There are some fairly obvious updates to the site like better search, better billing, better login, blog, etc. but the cooler stuff will be rolling out this week as we complete live testing.

The best part about the launch is that our focus can now return to pushing upgrades to the Creative Pro accounts. Stay tuned, and keep the suggestions coming.

Keeps getting better.

As we expected (and you can probably relate with) the two weeks immediately following releasing a new web application like the CDB are filled with a few surprises. Bug fixes, IE problems, questions that need answers, IE problems, etc.. We'd hoped to be showing off a few cool new features by now, but that wasn't in the cards.

The good news is that the roar of the bug report hotline has turned to a whisper, and we can now shift focus back to pushing new features, and launching Krop 2 - code name "Washington" (ok, i just made that up - although if you ever do call us and ask to discuss "the Washington project" we'll probably take you very seriously regardless).

Thousands of you have created profiles, and we can't believe the level of talent that is emerging. We are truly humbled that so many of you have allowed our application to host your work.

Here are a few favorites that we couldn't wait to share:
