    ACD / ART DIRECTOR
I was imported to Phoenix, AZ because I am convinced they have the best coffee shop in the world: Lux Coffee. I am a Mexican, the Chilango type, and though I miss real tacos I enjoy pretty much my daily latte at Lux. I love walks through historic neighborhoods, word games, and the movies. I have two cats, lots of freckles, and even though I have sweet looks don't be fooled, I'm a warrior.

I have 8 years of experience working in advertising in Mexico and recently in the US. Being involved in the development of ad campaigns from concept to production has been part of my daily work. I particularly enjoy being immersed in every project through a very strategic and analytical point of view.

I have experience working with a wide variety of markets from automotive vehicles and sport drinks to alcoholic beverages and retail stores.

Advertising is not just a job, it is a way of living. After all, it is about stories being told; it is more about entertaining people and bonding with them than just selling products. Advertising is a magnificent way to inspire people. It's like having a magic wand to move something within their hearts and minds to empower, to disrupt and to tug at someone's heartstrings.

I believe in working hard at what I love so that I don't have to work hard at what I hate. I love having a job that allows me to keep learning and growing professionally. Working in a team where there's trust and togetherness, hard work and good times is essential to me.

NB. Currently I have a Greencard that enables me to work and live throughout the US.

Experience

  • Creative Director / Art Director

    Keane Creative
    Keane Creative
    Creative Director
    Phoenix, AZ
    Aug. 2009 - Present

Client: LG Hausys Floors, LG Hausys Surfaces, Southwest Solar and SolarCAT Inc.

Working freelance for Keane Creative has been a new experience. As a small agency, Keane offers quite an interesting challenge since being resourceful becomes an everyday job. I have encountered myself enjoying very much the idea of being self-sufficient in many ways: I go from being the creative director to the head of art, back to strategic planner and then being a producer. Wearing many hats is a daily challenge – but I'm enjoying every part of it.
  • Associate Creative Director
    México City, Mexico
    Apr 2008 - Jul 2008
    JWT Mexico
Clients: Nestlé, Ford Motor Company, Johnson & Johnson (Lubriderm), and Cadbury Schweppes (Halls and Trident).

Working for JWT was interesting and fulfilling even if it was for a short time.

My job consisted of partnering with account managers and planning strategists to activate and deliver appropriate creative strategies for clients. I was involved in the managing and mentoring of a junior team consisting of a copywriter and two art directors on all assigned project work. Directed and supervised creative deliverables including visual concepts, photo and film shoots, storyboards, art projects, packaging, and new media. Part of my work here was also as a copywriter since my partner and I were both art directors.

I was part of the primary client contact for creative presentations and workshops; fostering creative trust, respect and value with clients.
  • Associate Creative Director
    Mexico City, Mexico
    Jul 2007 - Mar 2008
    Saatchi & Saatchi Mexico
Clients: Mabe (Mexican home appliances brand), Starbucks, and Procter & Gamble (Crest, Olay, and Scope).

S&S gave me the chance to focus on less clients. Working with a smaller team lead to better and faster brainstorming of creative ideas.
I also worked along account managers and planning strategists to achieve creative and functional campaigns. I kept mentoring a junior team consisting of a copywriter and an art director. Part of my responsibilities were to direct and supervise the art and copy for every creative material our team produced including visual concepts, photo and film shoots, post-production, storyboards, and radio/audio recordings; and client presentations in English and Spanish on a regular basis.
  • Associate Creative Director
    Mexico City
    Mar 2005 - Jun 2007
    DDB Mexico
Clients: Volkswagen, Henkel, McDonald's, Fábricas de Francia (Department Store), Dormimundo (Mattress Company), Dos Equis Lager, Herdez, Pepsi (Lipton, Gatorade, and Belight), Clorox (Armor All), Johnson & Johnson (Clean & Clear, Roc, and Neutrogena), Philips, and Uniroyal.

Working at DDB helped me grow as a creative professional. I started as a senior art director and transformed into a creativity addict.

My everyday job was doing what every senior art director does plus many other tasks like supervising, along with the creative director, a mixed team of 7 members consisting of senior and junior art directors and copywriters. I helped develop creative concepts working very closely with the strategic planners. Frequent client presentations and workshops in English and Spanish were pretty common. Being involved in the strategic process defining insights and drivers for each brand and understanding what it means to make creative advertising that works was the fundamental core of my daily work here.
  • Senior Art Director
    Mexico City, Mexico
    Sep 2002 - Feb 2005
    Y&R Mexico
Clients: Dannon (Activia, Dan-o-nino, Fruit Blends, DanUp, and Light and Fit), Philip Morris (Delicados and Broadway), Colgate Palmolive, Ford Motor Company (Lincoln and Mercury).

Passion for art direction became an obsession in Y&R. I evolved from someone who likes it to someone who loves it.

In a few words my responsibilities as an art director were visual development and execution of creative deliverables, developing original design and art direction solutions, brainstorming of creative ideas, and supervising storyboards, photo and film shoots. I also was in charge of developing graphic concepts, directing illustrators and typographers, and supervising the press process of all printed materials.
  • Art Director
    Mexico City, Mexico
    Feb 2002 - Aug 2002
    Grey Global Mexico
Clients: Gatorade, Gerber, Banco Santander (bank), and Slim Fast.

Grey was the beginning of my affair with advertising. This is where the magic began dressed up as art direction.

I learned how things work in an advertising agency. Press checks, designing layouts, taking photos, supervising illustrations, and typography selection were my daily tasks. My first attempts to create new ideas and intense brainstorming sessions happened here.

Education

  • Graphic Design
    Mexico City, Mexico
    Jan 1997 - Mar 2001
    Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana
Four years in the best Graphic Design university in Mexico City were enough to make me fall in love with images. My college years were happy, enlightening, and fun.

I graduated Valedictorian in my class (2001) though I don't know if grades reflect everybody's full potential. All I know is that I worked very hard because I enjoyed very much what I was doing. Being the highest ranked student was a nice surprise because when you work hard at what you love, it doesn't feel like working. I guess that's the main reason I decided to work in advertising.
