Associate Design Director/General Manager
We're looking for a strong designer who can lead and manage the quality and workflow for a small design team for a social communication product. The ideal candidate is a right-brain/left-brain person with at least 7 years of experience designing websites or similar interactive interfaces to join us as a full-time employee in the NYC area. Perhaps, you're a front-end developer who thinks visually. Or you're a designer who gets your hands dirty in markup and scripting languages to solve user experience problems.
You will oversee the quality and productivity of the creative group responsible for designing our website and client applications from concept, to design through front-end implementation. You understand usability best practices and can translate specs and wireframes into usable, clean and functional interfaces.
Your background: * 7+ years in IA or Design, preferably in user-centered roles
Strong organizational and project management skills
A solid design portfolio that reflects a strong foundation in interaction design and the ability to handle front-end programming/functional prototyping
XHTML, CSS and JavaScript and/or ActionScript 3/Flex plus a programming language (ideally object-oriented) preferred
Staff management experience preferred
The role:
Hands-on principal user interface designer who can translate product needs into wireframes, produce high-fidelity mockups and deliver markup and, if applicable, front-end code to our development team
Manage, mentor and art direct a group of designers
Manage traffic and design/production workflow
Act as the Design liaison among Product, Marketing and Development teams
Assure consistent, high-quality user experience across all products
We're a profitable startup (approx. 35 employees) that's been around since 1998 with a user base of over 4 million members. You'll have great visibility with real opportunity to impact the product in a tangible way.
