In a world that appears to be chaotic and random, I believe there lays a reason, a purpose in everything. This company was founded on that principle; out of death springs life, out of apparent chaos, lies order, out of misdirection comes purpose.

Through the love of my Grandmother Beatrice and Uncle Kenneth, I was lead to a bright place in creating my fashion company, KB. Through their positive affirmations in life, I have fully lived in this world. I look forward to sharing my art, my place, my world with you.

This has been proven to me through my own life experiences. My mentors in life, my advocates, were my Grandmother Beatrice, and my uncle Kenneth. Tragically, both lost their lives at young ages, one from cancer, the other from senseless violence. Through their deaths, I discovered an unused Singer sewing machine amidst their belongings. Unsure of how to channel my grief, I began to create, to sew, to explore my interpretation of my emotions through fashion.

If the story on its own merit is not convincing enough, I have found that numbers do indeed confirm my path in life and is the foundation of my company. Similar to Fibonacci, the numerical application of numbers that defines the seemingly otherwise inexplicably design of nature, I found the pattern and repetition of certain numbers in my life illuminated my calling in life. Simply put, the theorem is a mathematical series: 1 added to itself makes two, two added to its previous number in line makes 3, three added to its previous number in the sequence makes 5, and so forth…these numbers, 1,2,3,5,8,13,21... reflect patterns in nature; how many petals are on certain flowers, the number of seeds on a strawberry, the number fronds on a palmetto trunk. What is seemingly random is in fact a flawless, perfect design.

My Grandmother raised me until I was six. The only numbers I ever remembered was her phone number : 884.4939. My grandmother died at the age of 49, my uncle Kenneth died at the age of 39. Together, these numbers add up to 88. Both were born on the same day, August 12th, or 8/12/55 and 8/12/65 respectively. 8 + 4 from the first three digits of the phone number equals 12. The cumulative number when adding the years of their birth comes to 120, again, the 12 is present. My birthday – 11/7/78; again, add the seven to the one before and you have 8. Do it twice and you have 88. The difference between 88 and the year I was born, 78 is ten; the same difference between 49 and 39. So the same pattern of numbers constantly reappears: 1, 7, 8, 10, 12 and confirm for me that there is a divine plan and a defined purpose for my life, as well as the lives and spirits of Kenneth and Beatrice.

At the end of the day, however, it’s not the numbers that makes the impact; it’s their unwavering love and devotion in me. These are clothes, fabric, cloth, cotton, plants, soil, bones…this is my story, these are my clothes.
