Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, Columbia College Alumni Relations & Communications, the Associate Director of Marketing will play the role of managing and programming all social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram). Tasked with growing social media followership and engagement and driving results-oriented outcomes for volunteering and giving, the Associate Director, Marketing, will also support content planning and distribution to alumni across other marketing channels. Original content will include written, visual (photography, graphic and illustrative), video/animation and other. This individual will actively connect with the Columbia community and draw on a deep knowledge of pop culture to curate and refine relevant content, applying a voice and perspective that is relevant for our audience- an intellectual, opinionated and socially conscious population. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Social Media Channel Management-The Associate Director will manage social channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) to build a thriving social community for the Columbia College Alumni Association and current students. This includes creating new content and leveraging existing content relevant for college alumni as well as identifying and optimizing paid social placements. This individual must be passionate about pop culture, intellectual culture and have an outstanding sense of tools and best practices in technology to help tell stories in relevant and fresh ways. This individual will need to monitor and constantly assess performance, with clear metrics, across the social channels to refine content and timing to maximize impact and audience growth and engagement. They will manage the advertising, social media metrics dashboard and other tools that inform how to grow the community and drive results. B. Additional Content Development and Management- This position will also create new content and source existing content and strategically deploy it across additional channels for a variety of purposes. This individual must be a master storyteller who is a skilled writer with a clear, graceful writing style that can be adapted to all digital and print touchpoints, creating a common voice across multiple channels. This individual must also have a strong aesthetic and visual perspective with an ability to create and direct the development of visual content (photography, graphic design, and illustration), video and some digital animation. Strategic direction, storylines and themes will be developed both independently to meet key goals of the Columbia College Alumni Association and at the direct request of key partners who need support solving their communication needs for specific programs or goals, including priority fundraising initiatives. C. Web and Email Management- This individual will update web content, and produce and write emails.
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required. A minimum of three years of professional experience in a marketing or communications role with a focus on social media and demonstrated experience and expertise in writing and content development.

A master's degree in journalism or business, or equivalent experience, desirable. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Drupal is preferred. Familiarity with Columbia College and University, as an alumnus or through other relationship, is a significant plus.
