Position Summary:

The Digital Product Manager helps develop and drive innovative digital communication strategies at the University of California's Office of the President. This position, which reports to the Director of Digital Product within the Marketing Communication team, bridges strategy, creative, and technical teams, communicating across disciplines to strategically plan, create and implement digital experiences and content that works across UC's main systemwide properties and various program sites.

In this role, you will advance the story of the university's work through a wide range of digital vehicles and manage projects from inception to delivery on time and within budget. A successful candidate will have deep knowledge of content strategy principles and practices, familiarity with web development process (from discovery to production and implementation), with demonstrated ability of having launched websites and created content across a range of platforms.

Help define the content strategy and write clear and concise content across multiple touch points (including websites, newsletters, emails, marketing print collateral).

Identify user content needs, develop strategy, and execute on content needs through stakeholder interviews, user research, content audits, gap analysis and other methods.

Ensure that all content is technically accurate, informative, engaging, audience appropriate and strategically delivered.

Define metrics for measuring impact of communications vehicles and use results to refine or alter tactics.

Serve as editor and writer for subject-specific communications vehicles and other vehicles to meet departmental and audience needs.

Develops, maintains and manages content for systemwide websites (specifically the systemwide admissions site) using a variety of content management systems.

Work with cross-functional internal team to ensure content and message are clear and consistent before design work begins. Regularly evaluate existing content and edit for suitability and accuracy.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree with a major in communications or marketing, or allied field, and at least 3+ years of content strategy and marketing experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience with developing and executing integrated digital communications strategies, including surveying the competitive landscape, creating communications plans and effectively managing client relations to support timely decision-making.

Demonstrated experience in a variety of writing styles, including web writing, copywriting, and/or persuasive writing.

Demonstrated knowledge of web content strategy and best practices for maintaining compelling content over time.

Demonstrated experience working with web developers, designers and/or other creative services professionals to execute web vehicles on time and within budget.

Experience with CMSs (Drupal, Wordpress, or something similar) and basic ability to perform maintenance of digital products.

Ability to collaborate with senior management across the spectrum of an organization while advocating for user-centric voice and tone.

Demonstrated strength in organizational and time-management skills: proven ability to effectively organize, prioritize and manage a high volume of assignments, with frequent interruptions, to complete tasks in a timely manner. Agility to adapt to frequent shifts in priorities.


Demonstrated understanding of communications challenges in higher education is preferred.
