The Department of Advertising and Public Relations and College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama seek a lecturer to join our nationally recognized program. The preferred start date for this position is January 1, 2019 but there is some flexibility depending on the needs of the successful candidate and those of the College.

This full-time position is a faculty line with 50% of the duties dedicated to teaching and 50% dedicated to administrative visual creative work. Teaching responsibilities in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations are likely to include coursework covering basic principles of design with additional assignments dependent on the successful candidate's skill sets. In addition, this position will be assigned projects that require visual communication conceptualization and execution.

The successful candidate will bring the proper expertise and experience to fulfill both responsibilities with significant professional experience in visual communication work in or related to advertising and/or public relations, including experience in both print and digital communication. Some college-level teaching experience is also preferred, as the successful candidate must be able to effectively engage students in the classroom. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to be an active and involved member of a highly collaborative team at both the departmental and college levels.

Other responsibilities include student advising and engagement in appropriate service activities, including building relationships with the professional constituencies at the local, regional, national, and international levels. A bachelor's degree in advertising/public relations or a related field and extensive/distinguished professional experience in visual communication is required. A graduate degree in advertising/public relations or a related field is preferred.

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations celebrates achievement by leading scholars and its highly competitive AAF National Student Advertising Competition and Bateman Case Study Competition teams. Student work has been exhibited during The One Club for Art & Copy's Creative Week in New York, and the program has been a finalist in PRWeek's Education Program of the Year in eight of the last ten years.
