Media Matters for America - a progressive, Washington, D.C. based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media - seeks a Digital Design Associate to help carry out its mission as a member of the Digital Department. Applicants must be prepared to relocate if they do not live within commuting distance of downtown D.C.
Role Summary: Digital Design Associate is responsible for designing original graphics, illustrations, and charts. S/he works directly with the Design Manager and other members of the Digital Team to create digital content and elevate Media Matters research.
The Digital Design Associate reports to the Design Manager.
Graphics/Illustrations: Works with the Design Manager to create original graphics and illustrations to accompanyMedia Matters content. S/he helps to create effective content for distribution on Media Matters website, social media spaces, and other platforms.
Charts: Creates charts for research counting projects, in order to present data in a more digestible format for the website and social media audience.
Instagram: Assists the Digital Department in posting to Media Matters Instagram page, in accordance with Media Matters overall social media strategy.
Other design materials: Assists Design Manager with designs for other publication formats like PDFs, print ads, and web ads.
Website: Assists Design Manager and Digital Team with tasks related to our website.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Graphic design knowledge and experience.
Ability to create compelling illustrations, charts, etc.
Experience creating content for online and print spaces
Strong illustration skills, both representative and conceptual
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
Understanding of U.S. media and how conservative misinformation affects our public debate.
Multi-tasker with a keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize.
Strong communication skills:
Powerful storyteller who can break complex ideas down into digestible and effective social media content.
Ability to identify and empathize with a variety of audiences, including those on mobile-facing social networks, and outside of D.C.
Skilled at relaying information accurately and without error.
Self-starter who can excel both independently and in a team setting.
Can execute duties in a timely manner and quickly adapt to new challenges in a fast-paced media environment.
Experience with social media execution, either for personal or professional purposes.
