Digital Product Designer - Internal Tools

Project overview:

We have a need for a long term (6 months)digitalcontract product designer to help with product design work to support our team that works on improving our Content Management System that helps our clinic staff update and maintain their websites with the right information to help patients navigate to the care they need. The focus of this role will be on technical internal tools and products. Prior experience working on internal systems and tools, specifically Django, is nice to have, but not necessary.

Project goal:

Ensure our digital product teams have a digital product designer to enhance existing and design new capabilities that enable our health center administrators and managers to acquire and retain patients in their communities in collaboration with the Product Manager, Scrum Master, Content Managers, and Developers.

Scope of work can include:

  • User Research

    • User research plans

    • Qualitative user interviews (moderated/unmoderated)

    • Usability testing

    • Concept validation/testing

    • Card sorting

    • Synthesis and socialization

  • Information Architecture

    • Sitemaps

    • Service blueprints

  • User Experience

    • Data driven personas

    • Patient journey maps

    • Wireframes/flows

    • Product copy recommendations

    • Low - mid fi prototypes

  • Visual Design

    • Visual design and assets

    • Experience mock ups

  • Interaction Design

    • Prototypes and motion tests

  • Workshopping

    • Design thinking & discovery

    • Remote collaboration workshops


  • Up to $100,000 (est) based on experience, estimated hours x hourly rate

Monitoring performance:

  • Bi-weekly 1 on 1's with your manager - Sr. Director of Digital Product Design

  • Team collaboration and velocity feedback from scrum team (Product Manager, Scrum Master)

  • Slack engagement

  • Product design & research work review via design crits

Payment review & requests:

  • Bi-weekly invoicing

  • In the process of updating our team onboarding process to better set new team members and new team compositions up for success.


  • Figma files

  • Presentation decks

    • Inclusive of estimated scope/timing for design & research tasks

  • Hi and low fidelity prototypes

  • Light design documentation and annotations for handoff in Figma

    • Should cover max/min states

    • Error states

    • Instances

    • Functionality callout

    • Notes for development consideration

    • Screen flows & progressions for all appropriate users

Required attributes:

  • Proactive and flexible communicator

  • Passion for Planned Parenthood's mission, and dedication to using technology to expand access to sexual and reproductive health resources and rights

  • Strong knowledge of current design and research best practices with enthusiasm for seeking new patterns, practices, and tools and systems

  • Comfort with context switching and changing priorities, and patience for process

  • Able to think strategically, learn quickly, and succeed in ambiguity

  • Goal-oriented; able to make demonstrable progress toward strategic goals and KPI's
