Reporting to the AVP for Communications and Marketing (currently vacant role), the Director of Digital Strategy is responsible for conceiving, developing and executing the digital strategy across UC's systemwide websites and digital properties. It is based in Oakland, at UC's systemwide headquarters.
The newly formed position will develop digital strategies and execute plans to support departmental and divisional goals and objectives designed to increase UC's engagement with audiences such as current students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, Regents, legislators, advocates and others.

Duty 1: Strategic Planning and Management: Develop overarching digital strategies and implement plans by working with staff, colleagues across the Office of the President and the UC system (campuses, labs, medical centers) to identify institutional needs for flagship websites (www.universityofcalifornia.edu, www.ucop.edu, UCNet, etc.). Through staff, manage all aspects of UC systemwide websites, including technology, functionality, structure, etc. and optimize content reach and synergies with all digital platforms including social media.
Develop digital strategies to support departmental and divisional goals and objectives. Increase UC's engagement with audiences such as current students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, Regents, legislators, advocates and others. Develop strategies for audience acquisition.
Function:Strategic Planning and Management
Duty 2: Support best practices for leading-edge web design, user interface and user experience. Remain current on best practices in digital communications and web accessibility.
Evaluate and integrate new and evolving platforms and tools to reach and engage new audiences as well as deepen connection with existing ones. Develop new products when appropriate for email, various CMSs and processes to support those products. Hands-on ability to develop project roadmaps, personas, wireframes, user journeys, etc. including site maps.
Function:Manage Best Practices
Duty 3: Identify clear metrics supporting goals and objectives across all UC platforms. Gather, interpret and report analytics and provide insights based on this data. This will include metrics insights and reporting for areas of the enterprise like advocacy, admissions and news.
Duty 4: Work with agency partners on website development and audience acquisition.
Function:Manage Support Teams
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Minimum 8 years' experience in digital strategy, communications or related field.
Proven experience and results accompanied by strong knowledge of all aspects of digital communications, including project management, design, various media such as audio and video, and long and short range strategic planning.
Strong understanding of user- and design-centered digital methodologies driven by qualitative and quantitative data.
Deep knowledge of best-in-class analytics tools, strong ability to draw insights from to drive strategy and understanding of best practices in reporting metrics.
Strong understanding of web accessibility requirements, and current Federal and State law in this regard.
Strong strategic planning, marketing, project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
Strong skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints.
