The Director of Visuals + Store Design is responsible for developing, directing, managing and executing creative work, including store design and visual merchandising. This individual will lead a creative team, comprised of internal team members and freelance/contracted designers, fabricators and vendors. They will be responsible for developing creative guidelines and for the management and monitoring of all creative production, from inception to on-time completion. The Director of Visuals + Store Design is a strong creative and strategic leader, with the ability to maximize the talents of his/her team while managing multiple projects with overlapping and/or conflicting deadlines.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Store Design + Visual Merchandising

  • Work closely with Brand experience officer to interpret themes and designs into presentation concepts for store design and visuals
  • Work with internal and external vendors, present design concepts, and understanding client and Story needs
  • Manage all visual (props, concept build out, prototypes, etc)
  • Provide creative direction for visual merchandising, creative trend and analytics
  • Liaise with events team to ensure alignment and considerations of all event needs
  • Provide quality control over concepts and projects
  • Understand competitive landscape as it relates to trends in visual merchandising and design
  • Develop and implement visual DOR's
  • Ensure high standards of design, performance and quality from start of processes until implementation in stores
  • Jump in and build in CAD if/when it's necessary

Project Management

  • Oversee internal and external trafficking, confirm approvals and manage the workload of the creative team
  • Developing and managing the project schedule through all phases of design
  • Liaise with merchandising team as it relates to visuals to maximize product sales
  • Liaise with STORY managers to motivate and engage and develop team members during build-outs
  • Develop visual guidelines and implement a strategic floor set calendar
  • Create processes to ensure the best practices of people and project management
  • Lead training sessions for store management and associates to maintain visuals

Skills + Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years corporate visuals and store design. At least 5 year of experience managing a team. Retail store experience ideal.
  • Must have a keen understanding of the creative development and design process.
  • Self-sufficient, strong conceptual thinker, and articulate.
  • High-level leadership skills with the ability to communicate effective and graciously with all levels within the organization
  • Able to multitask and work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously while under tight deadlines.
  • Proven experience in merchandise presentation skills.
  • Maintain awareness of current trends in visual presentation and store design
  • Ability to travel and maintain flexible schedule
  • Computer proficient. Fluent in Microsoft Office, SolidWorks, Adobe Suite and Keyshot
  • Positive attitude with team-driven mentality and detail oriented approach
