Graphic Designer

Position Purpose

The graphic designer is part of our marketing department team focused on branded educational entities like Sotheby's Institute of Art, The School of The New York Times, and City Football Leadership Institute. The position reports to the Head of Web and Design and will work closely on web-based projects with the Senior Web Developer as well as advertising and collateral projects with the Digital and Content teams within Marketing. This role will help create impactful advertising, print collateral and digital/web design that is exciting and fresh yet respectful of each brand's guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following, but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary, which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

The Graphic Designer's overall duties focus on the creation of assets and creative direction for all BrandEd schools as well as for BrandEd itself. Duties include:

  • Understand and interpret project requirements, design briefs, concepts, and brand guidelines
  • Use various techniques to create drafts, concept visualizations and prototypes
  • Produce final design solutions (like logos, banners, interfaces, ads, animations, collateral, website wireframes and designs)
  • Pitch creative ideas and represent the work of the creative team in interactions with partners
  • Manage multiple projects with different timelines
  • Collaborate with team members to launch projects including advertising campaigns, websites and print collateral
  • Not required but a plus: Understand the technical aspects of printing and submitting materials for print
  • Interface with vendors (printers, illustrators, photographers, videographers)
  • Take on special design tasks (e.g. animation, color correction, video art direction)
  • Use feedback from other designers and marketing colleagues to improve work

The Graphic Designer should have the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Sketch
  • Familiarity with design techniques and current trends in both the print and digital/web worlds
  • Proficiency with responsive web design
  • Understanding of visual elements (layout, grids, type and fonts)
  • Illustration ability, motion graphics, or video experience a plus
  • Ability to work within a brand style guide
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Ability to manage long-form publication design like catalogs, annual reports and magazines
  • Time management and multitasking abilities
  • Creativity skills and problem-solving aptitude
  • Experience in the educational sector a plus
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in interpersonal relationships
  • Support and embrace diversity and inclusiveness
  • Ability to be present in the office
  • Regular weekday (Monday-Friday) attendance/availability is required during core business hours
  • Ability to work additional hours, if necessary

Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure

  • 5-7 years of experience and a BA in Design or a related field (illustration, communication, web development)
  • Portfolio required
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residence Status required

Language Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language
