This position could be hired to work primarily out of one of our two primary offices in Park City, UT or Los Angeles, CA.
Considerations:Position is typically lodged in Park City, UT for 2 weeks during the January Film Festival (lodging requirement determined annually). In addition, this role works extended hours (evenings and weekends) at key points throughout the year and occasionally travels to other Institute offices estimated at 25%.
Position General Summary:Incredible opportunity to lead design and identity for the Sundance Institute across all of our programs and for the Sundance Film Festivals in Park City, London and Hong Kong. The optimal candidate combines strategic thinking with leading design skills and is up-to-date with popular culture and design trends. Candidate must be as comfortable selling and pitching their ideas as they are in creating them. While this position will manage a small design team they also need to be prepared to roll up their sleeves and lead design direction. Candidate must be goal and process oriented in order to inspire the level of creativity, meet the strategic business objectives for Sundance Institute's brand marketing efforts as outlined by the Director of Marketing, in addition to managing the timeline, budget and deliverables of the design department. Extensive experience in all forms of print production in addition to digital UX/UI experience is a plus as an equal proportion of our work is represented across web, social and app platforms.
Essential Job Functions and Duties:
Develops and implements the Institute's graphic identity that reflects the Institute's marketing strategy and vision across all platforms and materials.
Develops the design function within the organization that emphasizes the Institute's brand as a leader in contemporary independent culture.
Manages internal and external design staff, includes selecting and training highly effective staff, providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure employees understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles, and delegates appropriate and meaningful work.
Demonstrates excellent project leadership, collaborative communication, and follow up skills.
Delivers designs against budget, time, quality and technical constraints.
Keeps current with design trends, technologies and standards and their application.
Participates in ongoing reviews and provides influencing ideas and suggestions to improve design, print, and web production workflow and processes.
Sets goals and provides direction to the design team across projects.
Conveys design concepts to internal and external audiences as requested.
Leads and directs work intake and overall design project assignment process.
Collaborates with Marketing, Content, and Social Media departments to determine and deliver graphic needs throughout the year.
Liaise with external agencies and vendors as appropriate to ensure brand continuity.
Conducts press checks to ensure the highest standards of production are achieved for all materials.

Employee has legal authorization to work in the United States.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
6 years design experience including digital and print design.
2 years experience managing employees.
Experience in presenting work in a meeting environment to peers and seniors.
Bachelor's degree in design.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Creative thinker who can provide a solid portfolio of creative ideas.
Understanding of marketing campaign development and the various mediums to execute a fully integrated campaign.
Strong working knowledge of typography, layout, color, and visual communications.
Strong print design, prototyping, and production skills, including detailed management of high volume of design files, and print vendors, to see print creative lifecycle through to completion.
Expert skills in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work within established brand framework and standards, while keeping campaigns fresh.
Knowledge of Flash and HTML coding preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, FileMaker, Excel and Google Applications.
