Quad/Graphics Creative Solutions, a multichannel communications firm serving premier national and international B-to-C and B-to-B clients, seeks an experienced, versatile Photo Art Director to support the retail segment of our business - working on-site at the Dick's Sporting Goods company in Coraopolis, PA.

The ideal candidate will have a strong design background and extensive experience in commercial studio and location photography used in retail inserts, direct mail, in-store signage and digital applications. Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of designing, planning and producing product and lifestyle photography that translates to print and digital production. Candidate must display a high degree of creativity while utilizing industry trends and visual design skills. They will work closely with our Creative Director, as well as the internal creative team at Dick's Sporting Goods Graphics Department to develop on-brand, creative solutions for a variety of channels.

Main photography related responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the overall quality of imagery for the brand and the client
  • Direct and maintain the creative photographic standards of our production and design team
  • Image approval for all photographic compositions and image aesthetics
  • Ability to plan, art direct and manage photographic imagery and related files
  • Work with Creative Director and client's creative team to establish consistent, efficient processes for executing large volumes of photographic imagery
  • An ability to work with stylists and photographers to create an established "look" for the client
  • Ability to creatively direct a photographer/stylist in a high volume fast paced studio environment
  • Name, store and manage photographic files
  • Minimize the need for after shoot file manipulation
  • Identify image issues for retouching and post photography enhancement/ manipulation

Other design responsibilities include

  • Develop well-designed, cohesive, dynamic visual elements
  • Presents concepts cohesively, persuasively, and in a form that generates long-term trust with member stores and ultimately positive revenue
  • Study, use and fully understand creative briefs
  • Understand Dick's Sporting Goods Member's brands and properly adhere to guidelines/requirements
  • Proactively guide members towards enhanced brand execution through effective communication and conceptual development
  • Ensures the overall quality of deliverables, ensuring accurate and timely completion on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines within established budgets
  • Create roughs of conceptual/exploratory ideas
  • Research products/services to inform design ideas
  • Take art direction from the Creative Director and client's creative team
  • Assemble layouts for final production and presentations
  • Review digital or printed proofs as needed (onsite or at vendor)
  • Travel as needed to client-related work opportunities
  • Maintain archive of professional records/ detailed housekeeping (email, timekeeping, expenses)
  • Present professionally to internal and external teams
  • Preflight files to release for production

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience designing for retail inserts, catalogs, direct mail and in-store signage
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design with secondary focus/emphasis on photography (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with photographic equipment and processes
  • Knowledge of all steps required for planning and executing a successful, efficient photoshoot
  • Highly organized and able to systematically manage large image files
  • Expertise in all aspects of Adobe software
  • Proficiency in all Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including, but not limited to, InDesign, and Illustrator. Some knowledge of the Windows platform is also required
  • An understanding of production methods to ensure designs can be produced for print delivery
  • Solid understanding of branding, marketing, advertising, and strategies within those disciplines
  • Aptitude in constructing clean, layered files, and knowledge of creating and working with templates and style sheets
  • Proactive, appropriate and timely communication skills across department, agency and clients
  • Allocates time efficiently to the most important issues and completes work in a timely fashion
  • Holds high regard for personal performance and professional accountability
  • Adapts as needed to clients' needs, feedback and critiques
  • Can adjust and streamline priorities within multiple assignments to ensure all goals and objects are met or exceeded
