Gear Patrol is seeking a full-timeSenior Designer to join our expanding Art Team. This Senior Designer will play an integral role in defining, refining and expanding our brand's identity across various platforms. Raw and intuitive design talent is required, along with ability to cultivate and sharpen the abilities of the employees they'll help manage. Success in this position is defined by the ability to quickly adapt to our current visual style, then help us expand it even further to create the next iconic men's lifestyle brand.

The ideal candidate needs to know and love design. More importantly, they need to be able to take ideas developed in collaboration with the senior team and run with them. You must be able to work on multiple projects in a fast paced environment while ensuring all deadlines are met. Creative flexibility and fluidity is also required - as our team and brand grows you'll need to grow with it; this is not a "check the box" job.

Creative collaboration is at the heart of the Gear Patrol Art Team - our Senior Designer must be able to absorb feedback from various departments and then filter and refine them to create visuals that meet and exceed the expectations of our team and most importantly, our readers.

The Senior Designer will report directly to the Senior Art Director while working closely with other stakeholders on the Gear Patrol Art Team including the Photo Editor, Associate Designer, and Design Apprentices.

  • 5-7 years of advertising, branding or design firm experience

  • Serve as a lead designer and and design representative during select studio, field, and remote shoots. This may occasionally involve travel (domestic and international) as assigned, occasionally on short notice

  • Design high-impact beautiful materials for sales team to use as tools in the marketplace including presentations, sell-sheets and sell pieces

  • Ideate/create content including in-house assets across digital, print, motion, branding, web assets, newsletters, brand collateral

  • Collaborate across teams to increase audience and engagement through unique visual storytelling and compelling creative executions for brand partners

  • Manage and layout magazine, web, and marketing layouts, templates and branded executions

  • Support the Senior Art Director on developing, producing and designing editorial, native advertising and content studio shoots

  • Support the rest of the Creative team to in the development, communication and implementation of the Gear Patrol visual, branding style guide in the best interests of our editorial, native advertising and commerce content

  • A deep passion for editorial design, brand identity and typography and communicating those internally for implementation of industry best practices and innovative new ideas

  • Deep understanding of editorial design, brand identity and typography across print and digital mediums

  • Monitor the quality and quantity of all design to ensure it's in line with company goals and guidelines

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom)

  • Strong knowledge of After Effects and motion graphics is a plus

  • Expert knowledge of current trends, technology and techniques

  • Strong knowledge of presentation platforms like Keynote and Powerpoint

  • Ability to fully and independently bring ideas to life across print and digital platforms

  • Ability to efficiently and take feedback constructively under pressure

  • 1-2 years of experience managing a junior designer and/or design intern

  • Work collaboratively with Gear Patrol's commerce, branded content, and social media teams to address relevant design needs

  • Monitor the competitive publishing landscape and identify potential best practices, tools and strategies that Gear Patrol's design team should adopt

  • Support Gear Patrol's efforts to earn industry recognition and awards

  • Serve as an ambassador of Gear Patrol's Design team while attending external events and projects.

  • Train and coach Assistant Designers and Design Apprentices


  • Concept and art direct photoshoots in collaboration with the Senior Art Director

  • Provide fresh and on-brand design solutions for Gear Patrols' print, digital, social, and sales platforms. This includes everything editorial layouts, logos, packaging and experiential.

  • Independently Bring design concepts to life based on ideation with Senior Art Director

  • Ability to work efficiently, maintain agile budgets while creating top level work

  • Assist in managing design project calendar (long term and fast turnaround projects)

  • Share expert knowledge and design experience with other design team members

  • Maintain visual and brand continuity across all Gear Patrol platforms

  • Manage/maintain relationships with external vendors (illustrators, animators, photographers, etc.)

  • Direct and meticulously manage the daily workloads of junior design team members

  • Communicate and present design concepts to the senior creative, editorial and sales teams

  • Brief and collaborate with outside partners on various projects

  • Accepting of constructive feedback in a fast paced design environment working on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Update and maintain the Gear Patrol Visual Style Guide

  • Constantly monitor the men's lifestyle landscape (publications, brands, advertising campaigns, etc.)
