Social Media Manager

Position Purpose

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for bringing social media initiatives to life through content creation, photography, graphic design, excellent copywriting, social monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of the strategy. The position will work closely with our Content manager and graphic designers to set a high standard of presentation and voice on all social platforms for our three brands--Sotheby's Institute of Art, The School of The New York Times, and City Football Leadership Institute--as well as our parent company BrandEd. The successful candidate will have a strong and intimate knowledge of the social media landscape, strategic initiatives, project management, content development, and writing creative copy. This position reports to the Head of Creative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following, but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary, which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

The Social Media Manager's overall duties focus on developing creative and engaging social media strategies and managing the day-to-day handling of all social media channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube, adapting content to suit different channels oversee, plan, and deliver content across different platforms using scheduling tools. Other duties include:

  • Creating engaging multimedia content (and/or outsourcing this effectively) across multiple platforms
  • Developing, launching, and managing new competitions and campaigns that promote the individual schools
  • Forming key relationships with influencers across the social media platforms
  • Undertaking audience research
  • Managing and facilitating social media communities by responding to social media posts and developing discussions
  • Monitoring and reporting on performance on social media platforms
  • Researching and evaluating the latest trends and techniques in order to find new and better ways of measuring social media activity
  • Analyzing competitor activity
  • set targets to increase brand awareness and increase customer engagement
  • Educating other staff on the use of social media

The Social Media Manager should have the following knowledge and abilities:

  • Experience with all current social platforms including Instagram, Tiktok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter, as well as scheduling tools and common reporting tools
  • Excellent writing ability and an ability to develop and maintain a brand "voice" on social media
  • Ability to pitch and then generate homegrown multimedia content, like videos and non-advertising content pieces, for use on channels
  • Comfortable with being "online" to have an active dialog on social platforms
  • Photography ability is a plus
  • Ability to work within a brand style guide
  • Passion for connecting with other influential brands and people
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Time management and multitasking abilities
  • Creativity skills and problem-solving aptitude
  • Experience in the educational sector a plus
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in interpersonal relationships
  • Support and embrace diversity and inclusiveness
  • Ability to be present in the office
  • Regular weekday (Monday-Friday) attendance/availability is required during core business hours
  • Ability to work additional hours, if necessary

Education, Work Experience, and/or Licensure

  • 3-5 years of experience and a BA in Communications or a related field
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residence Status required
