architect painter based in the Tuscan countryside. Her practice is concerned with exploring the harm contemporary society causes by dividing people according to artificial constraints of colour, ethnicity, gender, geography, religion and politics. Through her portrait paintings she aims to break down stereotypes and challenge discrimination through reframing her subjects. "An autobiographical narrative in which the artist skilfully mixes political discussions with a hair-set: hairstyles and apartheid", conventional iconography with contemporary design pieces. Alessandra paints only large portraits of her two kids, Thandi and Sandile, as a weapon for social change.
