architect painter based in the Tuscan countryside. Her practice is concerned with exploring the harm contemporary society causes by dividing people according to artificial constraints of colour, ethnicity, gender, geography, religion and politics. With her portrait paintings she aims to break down stereotypes and challenge discrimination through reframing her subjects. An autobiographical narrative in which the artist skillfully mixes political discussions with hairstyles, conventional iconography with contemporary thrones. Alessandra paints only large portraits of her two kids, Thandi and Sandile, as a weapon for social change.
