Jean Welborn was born and raised in Atkinson, Nebraska. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Art at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska in 2012. Her acrylic paintings contain whimsical, stylized, and surreal elements. She has shown work at the Lead-Deadwood Arts Center in Lead, South Dakota, The Carnegie in Alliance, Nebraska, West Nebraska Arts Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, The Old Feed Store Art Center in Bassett, Nebraska, The City County Building in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Heartland Tasting Room in Blair, Nebraska, the Artists' CooperativeGalleryin Omaha, Nebraska and Kiechel Fine Art Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska. Welborn received an Award of Excellence in 2018 and participated in the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs traveling show. She is a member of The Garden Gallery in Elkhorn. Nebraska. In 2021 Welborn and her husband welcomed a daughter. They currently reside in Blair, Nebraska where she enjoys a full-time career as a stay-at-home mom and part-time artist.
“I think one of the most remarkable gifts about being an artist is the ability to translate wild imaginations directly into images. Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte were masters of this. Working from my imagination, I paint the world that I see in all its whimsy, color, exaggeration, humor and darkness. Women’s figures and portraits have been a central theme of my work. I love stretching the proportions and working with all the beautiful curves, contours, and angles of a face and body."
