ITHAKA is searching for an Assistant Director of Product Marketing to lead the marketing and promotion for two of JSTOR's product offerings - thematic collections and primary source collections. These collections are designed to provide scholars and researchers with high-quality, interdisciplinary academic scholarship across a range of content types.
The preferred candidate is an individual with strong creative and analytical skills, able to find innovative ways to connect and communicate with our audiences and to measure and report on the success of those efforts. This individual will work closely with our product development and design teams to ensure each collection is developed to meet the needs of end users and will articulate that value to our librarian partners. They will be responsible for the planning, development, and execution of all marketing and communications activities for these products and will work to raise awareness of them amongst librarians, faculty, and students.
Specific Objectives and Responsibilities
In collaboration with editorial subject matter experts, develop a deep understanding of these products and the markets they serve and work with our Library Outreach team to develop go-to-market strategies and meet revenue and participation goals.
Craft and execute multi-channel marketing plans that take into account strategic positioning, the competitive landscape, market feedback, and our unique value.
Be a leader in demand generation through digital and offline marketing efforts, working in close collaboration with our Design and Marketing Operations teams.
In collaboration with our Marketing Operations and Analytics teams, create reporting systems to advance our product marketing through data-driven decision making.
Regularly evaluate marketing programs, incorporating feedback and reporting from our Library Outreach, Customer Experience, and User Insights teams, to ensure that programs are effective and are optimizing marketing spend.
Identify new areas of opportunity for growth in the rapidly evolving higher education market -- both in refining existing offerings as well as developing new ones.
Contribute to shaping market research activities and maintaining a competitive landscape assessment.
Partner with our communications team on speaking, writing and other thought leadership opportunities, particularly in support of interdisciplinary scholarship.
Develop relationships with the academic community and engage them in improving our services. Contribute to decision-making by seeking strategic, market-driven feedback about product offerings and providing a strong sense of brand perception implications.
You will be responsible for marketing both a new and an established product line, both of which have significant opportunity for growth. You will need to develop a deep understanding of these products and the markets they serve, and will need to work collaboratively with other departments across the organization to be successful. To do this, you'll need strong communication and leadership skills, and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
Skills, Experience, and Characteristics
Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field
Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience and a demonstrated track record of success in product marketing, preferably for a SaaS or subscription product.
Experience communicating effectively up and down the organization and advocating for key priorities.
Experience with CRM product like Salesforce; content management systems like Wordpress; analytical data products like Google Analytics.
Experience managing complex projects and communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience managing teams effectively.
Ability to travel ~10%
