The Graphic Designer is responsible for the development of highly creative and effective print and digital/electronic marketing and communication solutions for the internal and external constituents of the University. The scope of work includes original design conception, implementation and execution of design concepts for the University's magazine, advertising campaigns and marketing collateral pieces that support various areas of the University: academics, athletics, advancement, enrollment management, the Office of the President and others. The Graphic Designer works collaboratively with the Senior Graphic Designer, as well as project managers, and is an active participant in planning meetings, interpreting client needs and making recommendations.The Graphic Designer is responsible for performing the duties of the position, as well as working in coordination with others in the Office of University Communications to achieve the departmental and University strategic goals. In addition, this person must be committed to the educational Mission of the University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer and project managers within University Communications to ensure the graphic identity and branding standards of the institution are updated and maintained in all communications.

  • Implement design and production of communications, advertising, web and publication projects in support of the University's programs, events and outreach.

  • Provide art direction and perform graphic design, photography and production related to University publications, websites, events, marketing materials, environmental graphics and other projects.

  • Take projects from the design concept through production, print and distribution process.

  • Perform photography duties and work with professional photographers as needed.

  • Responsible for coordinating the brokering and management of print publications with printers, including preparing bid specifications, gathering quotes, performing pre-press production to files, delivery to vendors, and attending press checks as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) or Associate's degree in graphic design or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in graphic design and layout, specifically in print and digital, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Photography and/or videography experience preferred.
  • Experience using video-editing software such as Final Cut Pro preferred.
  • Experience working with printing vendors and understanding of printing standards preferred.


  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, such as PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

  • Ability to approach print and electronic design projects creatively and collaboratively, while maintaining the graphic design and editorial standards of the University.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently; ability to set and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients and colleagues.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and clients in a positive and team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to absorb and apply, as well as offer, constructive criticism.
