Tips and tricks for a photoshop user: A guide that all users should know

It’s been more than 30 years since photoshop brought colour to our lives. It is not an exaggeration to say that it’s one of the greatest innovations to become part of our modern lives. In spite of its popularity many people aren’t aware of the application’s power features. Photoshop offers a plethora of power tools that a lot of users are not utilising to their full potential. People considered photo editing tools a complex, secret weapon for graphic designers in the past. But nowadays, fantastic digital image editing possibilities are just a few clicks away for everyone.

Join a photoshop course:

“Photoshop is an art, but you will remain naïve unless you dive into this deep sea.”

Photoshop is one of the best photo editor apps that has made everything easier. The software is going through many changes, due to which it’s hard for beginners to catch up. You can learn the skills by joining a photoshop course, but if you can’t find a course, or you are not ready to start one, then these tips will help you achieve optimal results.

Install customised brushes:

If you are tired of using the limited range of pre-installed brushes, don’t worry, the good news is that Adobe Photoshop allows you to install your own brushes. But now you can install others according to your choice. Here are the following steps that you will follow for downloading brushes:

“Click on the gear icon > Choose import brushes > Download brush.”

After downloading the brushes of your choice, you can use them anytime. It is an easy way to add more creativity to your work.

Try adjustment layers:

Adjustment layers are best because you can edit them anytime. You only need to double-click on the layer to do this. The main function of this layer is to make changes in the image’s tone and colours. However, it allows you to add other changes according to your needs. Follow these steps to get started:

"Go to the main layers panel > Click on the adjustment layer icon > Choose the edit you want."

You can choose the desired change from the property box. You can also use the Opacity slider to fine-tune the effect.

Edit multiple text layers in one row:

Now you don’t need to put effort into editing each text item individually. For example, if you want to make minor alterations, you can edit multiple text layers in one attempt. You only need to hold down “CTRL or CMD” while selecting the numerous text layers. However, after this, you can make the changes via the toolbar.

Retain the use of paste:

It isn’t always useful to paste one layer directly into the centre of an open image. However, it is the default behaviour. You can change it by adopting these steps:

“Use the shift button and CTRL + V.”

Thus, you can retain the original position of the text you are trying to paste. Moreover, it also works between the images.

Save files faster:

If your files are heavy, then it can take ages to save them. But by adopting this pro tip, you can save files up to 10X faster. Follow these steps:

“Go to the preferences > Choose file handling > Disable compression of PSD & PSB files.”

But, please be aware, your layered PSD file will not remain compressed and will take up more space on the disk. Still, saving these files in this way will save your time.

Note: If you are just starting out on your Photoshop journey, then a good photoshop training course is the best way to learn. Always look for a course from an Adobe training provider. If you don’t yet have Photoshop you can try a 7-day free trial of the Adobe Creative Cloud photography plan.
